Background of the Study
Global health diplomacy has emerged as a critical mechanism for addressing health crises by fostering international collaboration and ensuring equitable access to vaccines and medical resources. COVAX, a multilateral initiative, was established to provide fair vaccine distribution, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic (Morris, 2023; Okafor, 2024). In Lagos State, COVAX has played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between high-income and low-income countries, ensuring that vulnerable populations receive timely access to vaccines. Through diplomatic negotiations, financial pooling, and coordinated logistics, COVAX aims to reduce vaccine inequity and promote public health. The initiative reflects broader global efforts to integrate health diplomacy into foreign policy, emphasizing transparency, solidarity, and shared responsibility. Despite these efforts, challenges such as supply chain disruptions, vaccine hesitancy, and logistical hurdles continue to impact the effectiveness of vaccine distribution. This study examines the role of global health diplomacy in promoting vaccine equity in Lagos State, evaluating the successes and limitations of COVAX initiatives, and offering insights into improving future health diplomacy efforts (Okafor, 2024; Morris, 2023).
Statement of the problem
Although COVAX has improved vaccine access in Lagos State, significant challenges remain. Supply chain issues, unequal distribution, and public mistrust have hindered the full realization of vaccine equity. These problems have compromised public health outcomes and slowed the recovery process from the pandemic. This study seeks to identify the obstacles affecting the efficacy of COVAX initiatives and propose strategies to enhance global health diplomacy and vaccine distribution (Morris, 2023; Okafor, 2024).

To assess the impact of COVAX initiatives on vaccine equity in Lagos State.
To identify challenges in the implementation of global health diplomacy efforts.
To propose strategies for improving vaccine distribution and equity.
Research questions
How effective are COVAX initiatives in promoting vaccine equity in Lagos State?
What challenges hinder the equitable distribution of vaccines?
What measures can improve global health diplomacy in the context of vaccine distribution?
Significance of the Study
This study is significant because it evaluates the role of global health diplomacy in ensuring vaccine equity. The insights gained will inform international health policies and contribute to more effective vaccine distribution strategies during future health crises (Morris, 2023).
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is limited to evaluating the impact of COVAX initiatives on vaccine equity in Lagos State. It does not cover other health diplomacy initiatives or regions.
